Mike "Sarge" Davis
The "Sarge" occupies an inseparable part of the Mike Davis name. After spending 20 years in the army, the personal traits that advanced his military career would propel him forward in a different field. His competitive drive, determination, meticulous attention to detail, and the thrill of seeking new challenges describe not just Sergeant Davis, but also the attributes of a soon to emerge barbecue champion.
Faced with military retirement at the young age of 37, and having recently overcome cancer, Sarge happened into barbecue competition by chance. Helping out a friend at the Arkansas State Championship in 1993, he thought he was entering into "some kind of backyard deal". Instead, he entered into a passion that still defines his life today.
