Jeff Stehney

Oklahoma Joe's, Jeff Stehney, is one of the legendary cooks still active on the competition circuit. Of the three cooks in BBQ Secrets, he is the only champion that competes in the Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned contests—having achieved (numerous times) their highest award, a grand championship.

Beginning competition in 1991, his team, Slaughterhouse Five (named after one of his favorite novels), spent two years struggling to perfect their craft. In 1993, they ignited. Blazing through an astonishing trail of victories: Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma— they roared to victory, town after town, leaving behind only spent ash in their wake.
